The Visualizer plugin replaces the static album art with animated graphics that react to the audio — spectrum bars, waveforms and several generative styles built on Butterchurn and Vudio.

It turns a second monitor into something worth looking at during long listening sessions, and it works with any track, not just ones with an official video.

What it does

  • Several visualizer engines and presets to choose from
  • Reacts to the live audio spectrum rather than a canned animation
  • Looks good full-screen on a second display

How to enable Visualizer

  1. Install YouTube Music Desktop App for Windows, macOS or Linux.
  2. Open the app menu and choose Plugins.
  3. Switch on Visualizer.
  4. Open its options entry to adjust the settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is the visualizer heavy on the CPU or GPU?

The richer presets are GPU-accelerated and can be noticeable on older hardware. Switch to a simpler spectrum preset if you see fan spin-up.

Can I use it while the video tab is showing?

The visualizer takes over the media area, so it is best paired with the Video Toggle plugin set to song mode.
