The Equalizer plugin adds a multi-band EQ to the player so you can boost bass, tame harsh highs or cut the mids for a particular pair of headphones — all without a system-wide audio tool.

Filters are applied through the Web Audio API in real time, so changes are audible immediately and nothing is re-encoded.

What it does

  • Boost or cut specific frequency ranges — bass boost, treble lift, vocal cut
  • Changes apply live, with no re-encoding and no perceptible latency
  • Settings persist between sessions, so your profile is there next time you open the app

How to enable Equalizer

  1. Install YouTube Music Desktop App for Windows, macOS or Linux.
  2. Open the app menu and choose Plugins.
  3. Switch on Equalizer.
  4. Open its options entry to adjust the settings.

Frequently asked questions

Will the equalizer affect downloaded files?

No. EQ is applied at playback only; files saved with the Downloader plugin keep the original audio.

How do I get more bass without distortion?

Cut the mids and highs slightly rather than pushing the low band far up. Boosting past a few dB on the low band is what usually introduces clipping.
