The macOS build ships as a universal-style release with separate arm64 and x64 downloads, so both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs get a native binary rather than a translated one.

On macOS the app integrates with the media keys, the Now Playing widget in Control Center, and — on MacBook Pro models with the hardware — the Touch Bar.

Installation options

Homebrew (recommended)

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Run the command below; Homebrew picks the right build for your chip.
  3. Update later with brew upgrade --cask youtube-music.
brew install th-ch/youtube-music/youtube-music

DMG download

  1. Open the latest release page on GitHub.
  2. Download the .dmg for your chip — arm64 for Apple Silicon, x64 for Intel.
  3. Open the DMG and drag YouTube Music into Applications.
  4. If macOS says the app "is damaged and can’t be opened", run the xattr command below once.
/usr/bin/xattr -cr /Applications/YouTube\ Music.app

After installing

Open the Plugins menu and turn on what you need — the plugin guide covers a good starter set. Most people begin with Ad Blocker, Downloader, Synced Lyrics and Shortcuts.

Frequently asked questions

macOS says the app is damaged and can’t be opened. Is it?

No. The builds are not notarised by Apple, so Gatekeeper quarantines them after download. Running /usr/bin/xattr -cr /Applications/YouTube\ Music.app in Terminal clears the quarantine flag and the app opens normally.

Which download do I need for an M1, M2, M3 or M4 Mac?

The arm64 build. Installing through Homebrew picks it automatically.

Do the media keys on my keyboard work?

Yes, with the Shortcuts plugin enabled. MacBook Pro users with a Touch Bar can also enable the TouchBar plugin for transport controls.
