SponsorBlock uses the crowdsourced SponsorBlock database to jump over the parts of a video that are not music: spoken intros, outros, sponsor reads and the chatter between songs in a live set.

It is especially useful if you listen to music videos, DJ sets or full concert uploads, where several minutes of every hour are not actually music.

What it does

  • Skips sponsor segments, intros, outros and non-music interludes automatically
  • Choose which segment categories to skip and which to leave alone
  • Backed by a community database covering millions of videos

How to enable SponsorBlock

  1. Install YouTube Music Desktop App for Windows, macOS or Linux.
  2. Open the app menu and choose Plugins.
  3. Switch on SponsorBlock.
  4. Open its options entry to adjust the settings.

Frequently asked questions

Which categories should I enable for music listening?

Non-music, intro and outro are the useful ones for an album session. Sponsor and self-promotion matter more if you listen to uploads from creator channels.

Does it ever skip too much?

Occasionally a submitted segment is wrong. You can turn the offending category off, or set that category to show a manual skip button instead of skipping automatically.
